The Austin Thurber/Michael Mann/Michael Mann's dad Boston trip

Hello everybody, Austin Thurber here a.k.a. "The Man", to talk about his recent visit to the wonderful city of Boston, Massachusetts. Michael Mann and I have come to the conclusion that it is the best city on the face of the planet, others might want to argue that, but in reality it is the truth. The first day that we were in Boston we hit up our 4 star hotel, and did some walking around Fenway Park. We had a spectacular view of Fenway from our hotel window. This was a small portion of the view we did have, but unfortunately I was using the first digital camera ever made so I didn't have the technology of getting the whole view into one picture. Some of the places that we did visit during the first day were the Boston Red Sox team shop (where they had every type of Red Sox object/shirt on the planet), an outside tour of Fenway Park, and we went to the "Boston Grill" for dinner. This all happened on Tuesday the 3rd of July. Wednesday came up and the boys and I thought it was time to hit up the gym in the hotel. I think just about everyone that would waste their time reading this blog would know that Austin Thurber is a beast when it comes to "The Bench Press". Majority people don't know this, but Michael Mann's dad at age 46, can still put up a mere 325 lbs. on the bench press. I thought if I could put up at least half of this I would be satisfied for the day. So Michael and I started at 105 lbs. for a quick warm up. Then we added and added more and more weight, Michael wimped out at 140 lbs. I think (which is still really good considering he weighs only 130 lbs.), and then we got up to 165 lbs. I thought to myself "With how much of a beast I truly am....I have to be able to put this baby up". So it came down on me and with all of my 145 lbs. of pure intelligent muscle, I threw the weight up with anger! I made so much noise an old lady on the cardio machine stopped to look back at me. And yes Scott I lied about pressing 175 lbs. I had to say something when you said that you scored 260,000 points on Guitar Hero (which for those who haven't or do not play Guitar Hero, doing so is nearly impossible). Now I will talk about the "highlight of the entire trip". The Boston Red Sox. The game started at 1:05 p.m. on the fourth of July (for any Canadians reading this the fourth of July is Independence Day for the United States). Right after we worked out we took quick showers and took off for Fenway. We showed up at the park at 11:05 in the a.m. for the opening of the gates to enter the park. Me being amazed actually seeing the park in real life instead of just on T.V. or on the Internet, I thought that we should do the grand tour of the entire park, upstairs and down before the game started. So after the two other people I was with were sick of walking and looking around for an hour we thought we should check out our seats. Our seats were in right field, top section, first row. We had a fantastic view of the field, unlike Minute Maid Park in Houston where if you aren't on the bottom section there is normally a part of the field that you cannot see, but at Fenway you can see everything. We were at our seats just looking and watching the players warm up for about an hour before the game actually started. Tim Wakefield was the starting pitcher for the Red Sox, and who knows who the starting pitcher for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were. Who cares? Tim Wakefield pitched a pretty good game giving up like 3 runs in 7 innings. The bullpen gave up 2 runs in 2 innings, and the Red Sox beat the Devil Rays 7-5. A solid win for the Sox. There weren't any really great plays except for Coco Crisp's lead off triple to start the game, and 3rd basemen, Mike Lowell's 3 run homer in the 5th inning if I remember correctly. I did notice that it was a good thing that Tim Wakefield has a good 64 mph knuckle ball, because his fastball is at an embarrassing 75 mph. I was telling my dad last night at dinner that it was a good thing he didn't throw a change up. For those who don't know much about baseball a change up in the major league's is normally 20 mph slower than their fastball. I don't even want to do the math for what speed Tim Wakefield's change up would be if he threw one. So here's a picture of Michael and I at our seats, and of course a view of the field at Fenway behind us. I would show a picture of the game "in action", but unfortunately you cannot see anything due to the lack of technology that the Thurber's have. So yeah, the Red Sox creamed the Devil Ray's 7-5. Wooohooo...... this blogging is taking me forever! One thing we did do a lot of though in Boston is walking around! It like took over my life. So after the game we did some more walking around and then I felt it was time to hit up 7-eleven baby! It had been too long since my last "Slurpee" (a form of an icee just way better, and there are no 7-eleven's in Texas that's why it's a rarity whenever Austin or Clint gets one). But, I was a little angry because they only had the oval type lids for the 12 oz. cups, and I couldn't just get a 12 oz. slurpee....I had to go with the 32 oz. no lid choice. This is a picture of me suckin' down a slurpee right outside of the 7-eleven. We then went to a nice restaurant later on for dinner that was semi-close to our hotel....thank goodness. I think we all ordered the same steak for dinner. It was extremely good-tasting, just not as good as "Taste of Texas" in Houston. We then went back to our hotel for showers and to watch T.V. There were 3 fancy looking bathrobes, for 1 handsome man (me) and two other guys. So Michael jumped in the shower first, came out with steem flying off the top of his head, in of course his fancy bathrobe. We all took boiling hot showers, dressed in our fancy bathrobes, and watched T.V. while we were still steeming. Thursday morning, the 5th of July, was meant strictly for the Freedom Trail (a trail that visits 16 historical sites that was like 8 miles long). The walk to the Freedom Trail was like 2 maybe 3 miles, not tom mention the trail itself was 8 miles long. The main historical site on the trail was the site of the U.S.S. Constitution (a ship that is still used today and used to be a warship back in the 1812 time, but was constructed in the 1700's sometime, I forget when. It was cool though because we got to view every deck/floor (whatever you want to call it) of the boat. Which was like 3-4 floors/decks I can't remember now how many decks there were. But, apparently the boat is still taken out in the Atlantic 8-10 times a year, and was just stopped for being used by the military 3-4 years ago. Which is pretty cool considering it is a few hundred years old. This is a picture of Michael and I waiting to view every deck of the U.S.S. Constitution, and I was remembering right before we went in to view it that people back home might want to see a picture of it. So I told Michaels father to snap a picture of us and the boat behind us. After we saw the boat we went out to eat at a place called "Legal Sea Food". Which kind of struck me as an awkward name, like,"What is illegal sea food then?" Our last day was approaching us. We took a cab home for we could not walk any longer to save our lives. Then we did the nightly routine of showering in boiling hot water and relaxing on our beds while watching a T.V. show. So Friday morning, the 6th of July, we got up around 8 in the morning, packed up most of our stuff, and went to the team shop for last minute buys I guess you could call it. Then we came back to our hotel, got our suitcases, took a cab to the airport, and arrived back into the 2nd best city on earth, Houston, Texas around 5 in the afternoon.

Hey Austin, you should be a writer. That was a great play-by-play of your trip. Very humorous. And you were smart to think to take those pictures while you were doing all that stuff so you could have evidence later.

P.S. Someday you'll bench 175. Someday.

Man you didn't leave anything out. Sweet post. I like that you scared the lady on the cardio machine. Thanks for translating for me so that I could understand what Independence Day was. I had never heard of it before. I bet the tour of the USS Constitution was pretty cool. Sometimes my favorite part of trips is showering and then relaxing on the hotel bed watching TV. We hope to see more posts from you in the future.
