Paci Problem

Kate loves her paci (pronounced "passie" and short for pacifier, for all you "binky" people out there). As you've probably noticed, we keep it clipped onto every outfit so that it can be ready for self-insertion at any given moment of crisis. Yesterday we found an old paci with its clip and so we put it on her as well, allowing her a new freedom of choice ("Do I feel like sucking on the white one or the green one right now?"). She took her responsibility very seriously, placing the rival pacis side-by-side as she weighed the merits of each one before making her choice. An added bonus of the double pacis was that if she turned them vertically she could suck on both at once, an act which she performed solely to amuse her parents (and it did).

ANYWAY, this morning Scott and I were feeling a little lazy, so when Kate woke up we brought her into our bed. It was fun at first but it wasn't long before she was asking for her cup of milk. She was talking with her paci in, but it was still easy to understand her. However, she became frustrated that her lazy parents weren't responding or taking action and wondered if the paci was obscuring her request. So she removed the paci, leaned forward so her face was inches from mine, and said with exaggerated clarity, "MILK."

Needless to say, we got the picture.

awww! that is SUCH a cute story!! (PS - i'm glad you don't call a pacifier a "binky", either. that's one of the stupidest words i've ever heard and i wondered if i would have to succumb to using that ridiculous word when i have children one day - it is SUCH a relief to see that no, in fact, i DON'T have to resort to "binkydom". hehe) hope your valentine's day was wonderful!

This is what is known as a generation gap. Kids will do anything to bridge it, even if it means de-insertion of the passie. Wait another 10 years if you want to see a really exasperated kid trying to educate her clueless parents.

Rachel never liked her pacifier until Lindsay came along. Then she decided she had to have one. . . or two or whatever she could find. Several times she also walked around the house with two stuck in her mouth. Kids are so cute!

Rick has got me calling it a "Pa." I really dont like saying that any more than binky, but pacifier is just such a long word!
